The Chocolate Chip Cookie |
The chocolate chip cookie was invented by Ruth Wakefield in the 1930's. She started with a recipe for butter drop-do's and added bits of Nestle semi-sweet chocolate bars. Mrs. Wakefield called them "chocolate crispies" when she started serving her cookies at the Toll House Inn. |
The cookie and it's name became so popular that Nestle bought the name in 1940. Since the cookies were becoming so famous Nestle started scoring their chocolate bars into pieces and then the chocolate chips were invented. The original Toll House recipe is still America's hand-to-mouth favorite snack. |
